Michigan lawmakers are drafting bills that could forgive snow days during Lansing’s state of emergency. Many Michigan schools have already used nine days and some have gone over the limit and will have to make up class time.
All voters in the city of Lansing and a small number from Delta Township decided the fate in Tuesday’s election of about 11 acres of township land.
The Waverly school board race that once did not have enough candidates to fill the ballot for four open seats now has seven candidates. Four people met the Oct. 26 deadline to run as write-in candidates, Eaton County Clerk Diana Bosworth said. They are:
Hundreds of people will be at work Tuesday across Delta Township and Eaton County to run the election. Their work includes issuing ballots to registered voters, monitoring the voting equipment, explaining how to mark the ballot or use the voting equipment and counting votes.
The Delta Township board has appointed Fonda Brewer to fill a vacant trustee seat. Brewer has been a resident of Delta Township for over 15 years and is retired from the Michigan Education Special Services Association.
The Delta Township Community Awards Committee is holding its annual community awards event Thursday at the Crowne Plaza Lansing West Hotel. The awards honor individuals, businesses and organizations that support the community.
Voters will be asked in November to elect four candidates to the Waverly school board, but only three candidates will appear on the ballot.
The Delta Township board will interview seven candidates tonight to fill a vacant trustee seat. The board is scheduled to make a selection at a special meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
