The Delta Township Board appointed Fonda Brewer to the vacant trustee position on Oct. 16 and she will serve the remainder of the term until 2020.

Brewer has been a resident of Delta Township for over 15 years and is retired from the Michigan Education Special Services Association. She served on the Waverly school board and had two children go through Waverly Community Schools. She resigned from the school board in 2011.

She knows and is aware of board rules, fiscal responsibilities, policy making, campaigning and constituent relations, Delta Township Clerk Mary Clark said.

“We felt she was very qualified for the position,” Clark said.

Brewer’s term as a trustee expires in November 2020. She replaces Deanna Newman, who resigned.

“I know not all days are great and rainbows aren’t hanging over our heads every day,” Brewer said.

She said one of her priorities will be trying to find ways to engage seniors and to work with the senior council.

She also sees infrastructure, finances and services as issues that need to be addressed. She said infrastructure and finances always need attention and she wants to see how the township could look to provide more services to residents.
