Michigan welcomes Afghan refugees

Two-hundred seventy-eight Afghan refugees have arrived in Lansing since August 2021. St. Vincent Catholic Charities has received all of them. 

Judi Harris, director of refugee services at St. Vincent Catholic Charities, said the organization sets up housing for refugees, provides job assistance, offers English classes and gets people signed up for benefits, such as Medicaid. She said that of the 278 Afghan refugees, many are  young children.

Hippity-hopping into spring events

Spring has sprung. The snowstorms have turned into rain showers. Birds are chirping. Flowers will soon be blooming. 

And Easter celebrations are right around the corner.

Winning-at-all-costs mentality is harming young athletes

“They put medals and trophies and winning above the welfare of these children and of these athletes,” said French, 26. “What it should be is the child first and then the athlete second. You have to focus on the complete identity of this person to make sure they are getting the well-rounded support that they need in order to be a human.”
