Michigan’s landscape is diverse, ranging from vast forests to urban areas, providing habitats for various wildlife, including ticks. These tiny arachnids have long been a concern for public health due to their ability to transmit diseases like Lyme disease, anaplasmosis and babesiosis. However, as climate change has altered environmental conditions, which transform the patterns of tick activity.
Tom Izzo and his family have been a part of the Lansing community for over three decades and continue to have a large impact on the city. One of the main events that the fund hosts is the annual Izzo Legacy 5K race, which occurred this year on April 20. East Lansing resident Joseph Darda came in first with a time of 15:56.5. According to Izzo Legacy executive director Raquel Izzo McDonald, initial counts show that the event raised over $40,000.Â
Jackson Field, home of the Lugnuts minor league baseball team, hosted baseball fans in high spirits from across Lansing and East Lansing during this year’s Crosstown Showdown. The Lugnuts faced the Michigan State Spartans for the 17th annual exposition game.Â
Almost three years ago, four of Oxford High School’s 1,700 students lost their lives in a mass shooting. Hana St. Juliana was one of those students. The Hana St. Juliana Memorial Fund was created in her honor in 2022. The money raised by selling apparel with Hana’s logo are now going toward building the Hana St. Juliana Memorial Garden, which will be located next to Seymour Lake Park outdoor market in Oxford.
