DeShawn Johnson is a junior at Michigan State University studying journalism. He also has a focus and double minor in sports and broadcast journalism. DeShawn is an intern for TVSportsmagazine.com and is also a part of multiple journalism courses at MSU. DeShawn aspires to tell the stories of athletes and individuals alike, because many folks forget that athletes have their own stories outside of sports, and that there are deep stories within sports. He wants to continue to build his storytelling and media skills and hopes to one day be a professional beat reporter for an organization or a news anchor.
Alexis Alston has been known as an athlete, a track star, a tomboy, and a straight-A student, but as of this year, she is also known as a beauty queen. Alexis, better known as Lexy, will be representing Ingham County in the Miss Michigan USA beauty pageant. The winner of the Miss Michigan USA pageant will go on to represent the state of Michigan in the Miss USA pageant.
On the night of Feb. 13, I was in the same place I would always be on a Monday night: the Spartan Sports Report newsroom in the Communication Arts and Sciences building at Michigan State University. That night allowed many of us within the Spartan Sports Report to grow closer to one another than we ever expected to be.
The Ingham Intermediate School District has joined the movement to have students structure their learning with careers in mind. The intermediate district has 19 programs where students can learn about their career interests. One program focused on career and technical education is SkillsUSA, an inter-school competition program Ingham ISD students will compete in this year.
The Capital Area Transportation Authority launched a feedback program in late January to improve rider experience. This program is known as The Listening Bus.
During these sessions, CATA employees ride along with everyday bus riders and simply ask them for their feedback. Riders will also be provided with a survey form to help CATA get a better understanding of their perspectives.
Riders who want to participate in one of the Listening Bus sessions can also fill out a form online that will be given directly to CATA employees.
A Narcan vending machine will soon be installed at the Ingham County jail. The opioid overdose-fighting drug will be available for anyone in need, and the process will be identical to getting a snack from a normal vending machine.
