EAST LANSING (SSR) – Michigan State has a new women’s basketball head coach, and she is “excited for the challenge to play in the Big Ten.”

On Tuesday afternoon, the MSU athletic department hosted a press conference to introduce Robyn Fralick, an Okemos, Mich. native and the first new women’s basketball head coach since 2007. MSU Athletic Director Alan Haller had nothing but uplifting things to say about Fralick, including that experts such as men’s basketball head coach Tom Izzo confirmed that she “checks all of the boxes”.

Fralick has quite the resume in the women’s basketball community. She first coached for Ashland University from 2015 to 2018 where she posted a record of 104-3, good for the highest winning percentage in NCAA history with over 100 games coached. During her three years of coaching the program, she won the Division II National Championship once and was runner-up the following year.

Fralick joined the Bowling Green Falcons as head coach in 2018. After five years with the Falcons, she ended with a 88-73 record with three postseason appearances in those five years. In 2021, Fralick was named the MAC coach of the year for turning around a program in very little time. The Falcons had a 10-21 record in the 2019-2020 season and Fralick helped to flip the record to a winning one the following year, finishing 21-8.

During the 2022-2023 season, Fralick had a career-defining year, leading the team to the WNIT Fab 4 and finishing with a 31-7 record.

Fralick, being from Okemos, is very excited about coming back home and fulfilling the dream of coaching at Michigan State University. She plans on investing deep into the community and living up to the excellence of the Spartan name.

“I’ve been here as a fan, I’ve been here as a little kid, it’s the community I grew up in,” Fralick said in the press conference. “I’ve marveled and watched the teams and players with so much admiration so yeah, it feels surreal.”
