PREVIEW: MSU football looks to snap losing skid, upset #2 Michigan

EAST LANSING – Michigan State is desperate for a win after starting the season 2-0, then losing four consecutive games. The Spartans will have another crack at getting back in the win column against Michigan tonight. Recapturing the Paul Bunyan Trophy would be just what the program needs in the midst of a season that’s slipping away week by week.

Taking care of the ball needs to be on the front of the Spartans’ minds after committing 12 turnovers in the last three games. Quarterback Katin Houser, who saw his first career start last week in Piscataway, has the tall task of facing the smothering Wolverine defense. Houser completed 18 of 29 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns in the 27-24 loss to Rutgers.

Governor Whitmer Enacts Legislation Protecting Minors’ Right to Consent in Marriage

In a historic move, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a bill, HB 4302, aimed at safeguarding the well-being of minors in Michigan by raising the minimum age of consent for marriage to 18. This action not only represents a continuation of Whitmer’s previous initiatives signed into law in early 2023, but also positions Michigan as a progressive leader, making it the tenth state in the United States to officially eliminate child marriage. Before the bill, the legal age to get married in Michigan was 16 with parental consent. The bill was first introduced on March 16, 2023, and passed on Sep. 26.

The other nine states that have a ban on underage marriage with no exceptions are Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Rhode Island, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut.

“I am committed to keeping Michiganders – especially young women – safe and healthy, and today’s bipartisan bill fully implements Michigan’s ban on child marriage,” Whitmer said in a press release.

“It can get really hot”: Michigan State students struggle with heat in dorms without air conditioning

EAST LANSING, Mich.- Michigan State University dorms are without air conditioning. What do students think about no air conditioning? And how can students deal with the heat as school is back in session?

Summertime in Michigan is hot and most people run central air or fans to beat the heat. However, school is back in session and Michigan is moving into fall season. Despite that, the heat of summer still lingers.

“It can get really hot in the dorms, especially since we just recently left summer,” said Michigan State University sophomore Tim Marshall.
