Spartan Newsroom has withdrawn this Oct. 12, 2024, story about East Lansing’s city charter amendment Proposal 1 due to serious reporting errors.
The story incorrectly described Patrick Rose’s experience with city housing and rental regulations and misquoted him. Rose says city inspectors investigated him for potentially violating the rental code while his nephew was living upstairs in his home for more than 30 days. The city did not find wrongdoing or issue any fines. City Council revised the rental ordinance to exclude nieces and nephews from its restrictions.
Also, state Rep. Penelope Tsernoglou was incorrectly identified as a member of the committee that drafted the amendment.
