WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Unless it’s raining cats and dogs, The Nautical Dog is waiting for you and your pup to engage with the community and mingle with furry friends.

Every Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m., The Nautical Dog, Pet Market, Dog Wash & Cat Lounge, hosts Pack Walk Club, a weekly meet up for dogs of all ages, sizes and temperaments.

The route starts at Nautical Dog on Main Street in New Town, takes the pack down Center Street and into Charlotte Park with a partly shaded path perfect for the dogs to cool off with kind-hearted neighbors who leave out water bowls for the dogs mid-walk, said Loughan Campbell, avid Pack Walk Club member.

“When we’re not at a dog competition or dog training thing we just totally look forward to this because all the dogs are really nice and all the people are nice,” said Campbell, owner of Gin, the 3-year-old labrador retriever.

Pack Walk Club started during COVID-19 so that people would have something to do with their dog. The walk is only canceled if it’s raining and it happens every week with usually around twenty dogs according to Gina Wiatrowski, store manager of almost nine years.

“Our owner, she just thinks of all these kinds of things,” said Wiatrowski. “It was her creation just one day she was like let’s do a Pack Walk and we’ve been doing it ever since.”

The store is full of high quality food, treats and accessories for your dogs and cats with a speciality array of holistic approaches to treating your dog, said Campbell.

All community members are welcome with their four-legged family members. Those who foster as well are encouraged to attend and socialize with other dogs too.

“We noticed that this area doesn’t really have a lot of opportunities for community or bringing people together or bringing dogs together, so when we saw a flyer where Nautical Dog was going to be hosting these Pack Walks we got really excited because Frankie loves being around dogs,” said Angela Della Croce, owner of their 4-year-old rescue, Frankie. “It’s the perfect opportunity for him to meet other dogs and be around other dogs and for us to meet new people because we’re relatively new to the area. Good for us, good for him, all around a really great opportunity.”

Nautical Dog’s owner, Amanda Wilbourne, tries to think of win-win-win situations: what would be good for the community, good for the dogs and good for the store, said Wiatrowski.

“She’s always thinking about different ways to involve people and help people at the same time,” said Wiatrowski. “For example, the doggie cookout that we’re having next weekend is a fundraiser for Ring Dog Rescue, who’ve had some major medical bills recently and need help so she did the doggie brunch for them last month and this month she’s doing the cookout.”

The Nautical Dog is located at 5102 Main St Suite B at New Town Commercial Association in Williamsburg, VA.
