As the spring semester at Michigan State University ends, Greek Week approaches. Every spring, sororities and fraternities on campus are divided into teams, each with a chosen organization to sponsor. The teams then compete against one another in various activities such as fundraising, Greek Day of Service, and Greek Games.

During this year’s Greek Week, all the teams are sponsoring the Spartan Strong Fund, a campaign created to provide support for the ever-changing needs of the individuals most critically impacted by the recent violence on campus. The proceeds will assist in providing counseling and various support for students and staff.

The Spartan Strong Fund is especially personal to the Greek life community following the passing of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity President, Brian Fraser.

“During this time, we lost on of our own inter-fraternal men. Brian Fraser was an amazing leader of his Phi Delta Theta chapter, a passionate brother, and a friend to countless. The departure of Brian from our community has left an impossible hole in our hearts and minds,” said the MSU Interfraternity Council.

The Michigan Beta Chapter of Phi Delta Theta received support from chapters nationwide, and now they have made it their mission to “ensure Brian’s legacy will never be forgotten.”

Phi Delta Theta said in a statement, “The Brian Fraser Memorial Scholarship has received over $100,000 in donations, which will help not only fund future Michigan Beta presidents’ educations, but it will ensure that Brian’s legacy will never be forgotten. The library inside of our chapter house has also been renamed in honor of Brian.”

As Greek Week commences, the events to raise money for the Spartan Strong Fund include a blood drive, trivia night, Day of Service, a 5K marathon, Spotlight dance competition, and the final celebration on April 28.

“We are honored to be able to raise money for the Spartan Strong Fund this year as our Greek Week philanthropy. It hits close to home for everyone in our community, but specifically the brothers of Phi Delt. We know everyone is going to give 100% this year,” MSU Greek Week Council said in a statement.
