Each November, the East Lansing Film Festival showcases independent films. These films range from comedies to dramas to long and short films. The nonprofit was created in 1997 and remains the longest running film festival in Michigan.

This year marks 25 years of the East Lansing Film Festival and a celebration of its silver anniversary. The festival will run Nov. 3-10.  Tickets can be bought online or at Studio C in Okemos. By scrolling down on the website, you will be able to select the show and showtime.

ELFF holds not only one festival, but two. The Lake Michigan Film Festival will be in early winter. It is a competition among the states that surround Lake Michigan: Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. Cash prizes will be awarded.

ELFF also runs an Indie Film Series. These films come from all over the world. The festival will be in Studio C and at Celebration Cinema in Lansing. Thanks to ELFF, foreign films screened  in major cities now have a venue in the area. Susan W. Woods, director of East Lansing Film Festival, created the ELFF from the ground up. As the world of media is constantly changing, she continues to keep the festival relevant. Woods says, “It is very easy to show films in the mainstream theaters, foreign films are very rare.”

Jerre Cory, board president, says “I enjoy bringing quality films to our community. Our director, Susan Woods, and a dedicated small group view films all year to bring thought-provoking entertainment.”

One film is “Kurt Vonnegut: Unstuck in Time” (documentary), 6:30 p.m. Nov. 4. It follows the life and work of this famous literary figures.over the course of 33 years. “The Sisters Karras” (feature), will show at 9 p.m., Nov. 4. “Unstuck in time” will show on Nov. 4 and Nov. 7.
