Delta Township board members on Oct. 19 discuss the 2022 budget, which includes an increase for police services provided by the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Delhi Township could increase its police budget by more than $40,000 next year to cover increased service costs by the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office.

The township board discussed the proposed nearly $1.7 million police budget during its meeting on Oct. 19. The board is expected to vote on a final budget this month

Capt. Andrew Daenzer of Ingham County Sheriff’s Office said Delhi Township has a contract with Ingham County for the Delhi Division, and the money is to continue the services the contract already provides.

“It’s not for any new positions. It’s just a continuation of the budget,” Daenzer said. “The increase that you would see is just costs going up, benefits and salaries and that kind of thing.

“That money funds a lieutenant, two sergeants, 10 deputies, three community policing officers, two detectives and two central records.”

Township Manager Tracy Miller told board members and meeting attendees the township is forecasting similar increases in 2023 and 2024.
