The first stores of the $200 million Delta Crossing development on more than 200 acres at Interstate 96 and West Saginaw Highway in Delta Township opened to shoppers on Sept. 16.

The project, which includes Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx, Sierra and Bob’s Discount Furniture, is expected to add BJ’s Wholesale Club, Texas Roadhouse and a residential area with houses and apartments.

“I think there’s plenty of restaurants, I don’t know if we necessarily need more of that,” said Channing Blakely, a shopper at Sierra. “Everybody likes clothing stores.”

The township is looking to approve a tax increment financing plan to help pay for  infrastructure projects related to the development.

Barb Thomas gets around the development fine but has a recommendation to improve the traffic woes of others.

“Direct all the traffic to the light beside the dealership,” she said.

The new development could attract more customers from outside from across the region. Cathy Layton of Grand Ledge said she’s excited to have shopping closer to her home.

“I actually like it because it’s starting to bring it towards Grand Ledge,” said Layton, who was shopping at TJ Maxx. “I think everything before was always in Lansing and East Lansing.”
