EAST LANSING, MICH. – Rita Lyon has been working at the MSU Bakery for 19 years. For the past nine, Lyon has been educating through baking pink bagels for the month of October, commemorating the memory of her mother, Gwen, who passed away from breast cancer.

Alison Reinhold, is an MSU student who also works at the MSU Bakery. She is considered the lead “bagelette” for Gwens Bagels.

“Rita’s just amazing to work with. She’s just so friendly and she was the first person I met when I worked here, so, she’s just, she’s a great person to be with, and its a great cause to work for too, and I love eating bagels, so, it works out,” said Reinhold.

On Wednesdays, also known as “Gwensdays,” MSU bakers wear their pink Gwen’s Bagels t-shirts to get the word and awareness out.

“I think she would be amazed to see her name everywhere on campus,” said Lyon.
