About Brett Kast

Brett is a senior journalism major at Michigan State Univeristy. From Troy, MI, Brett came to MSU unsure of what path to take, but after attending the Spartan Sports Journalism Classic his freshman year, he fell in love with the field of journalism and the J-school at MSU. Prior to joining Focal Point, Brett has worked at the student run radio station Impact 89fm, HOMTV, and as a sports intern at WDIV in Detroit. Through Focal Point, Brett hopes to grow in shooting, editing, and overall storytelling.

Focal Point News

Focal Point is the name of a student-produced newscast at Michigan State University. We record newscasts 12 times per school year at the studios in the Communication Arts and Sciences Building. The purpose of the newscast is to not only provide news and information to the MSU community, but to give students the opportunity to learn about broadcasting in all forms: reporting; shooting and editing video; writing.

The Michigan Waterway Stewards and Delta Sigma Phi fraternity after their day cleaning up the Red Cedar River. On March 28, the Michigan Waterways Stewards and East Lansing Rotary Club partnered with Michigan State’s Delta Sigma Phi to host a Red Cedar River cleanup day.
