Commission embraces National Food Day

In a recent Ingham County Board of Commissioners meeting, district representatives approved and agreed to support starting a Food Fest in Ingham County Oct. 16-24.

Food Fest 2012 will take place in Ingham county this year for the first time. It started from World Food Day as declared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. World Food day focuses on achieving by supporting and investing in cooperatives, which allows food producers to increase food production, market their goods and create jobs. The UN hopes that this will improve their livelihood and increase global security.

National Food Day, according to the Center for Science and Public Interest, is a national celebration and a movement for healthy, affordable and sustainable food.
Food Systems Workgroup, a food council working in Ingham County, has as its vision that everyone has access to safe, healthy and affordable food, which is what the Ingham County Food Systems Group aims to do with Food Fest 2012.

During Ingham county’s Food Fest 2012 coordinated a variety of food related community events.
The board of commissioners voted to support this year’s Ingham County Food Fest and their efforts for 2013-2014.
