Okemos High School implemented a mandatory $75 pay-to-perform fee for all students participating in school plays, musicals, crew and pit orchestra due to budget cuts hindering the school’s ability to cover costs.
Drama Director Holly Bodjanac said that now there are fewer students who participate in the musicals.
Some students have had to work odd jobs to come up with the extra money to pay the fee so they can continue to explore their passions.
