It is a pretty exciting day for small-town artists with big-time dreams …

At only 21, Lansing resident Rachel Curtis has been selected as a contestant to be featured on the upcoming premiere of the all-new American Idol show. The Delta Township native and her family traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, one of the closest audition cities, in hopes of impressing the celebrity judges. Details are pretty under wraps for now, but things seem positive, judging by her through-the-roof excitement level displayed on her social media announcements.

What we do know: The reboot’s celebrity judges include Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. An American Idol staple, Ryan Seacrest, returns to host the show. Rachel’s fan club even makes an appearance on Ryan Seacrest’s official Instagram account, a true measure of success. How many people can say that?

“I would love to chat with you, but am not allowed to be interviewed with the contract I am under,” Rachel wrote in an email. “I might be able to in a week.” As expected, the show makes promising contestants sign a strict contract that prohibits any personal interviews until closer to the premiere of the show. The 2014 Waverly High School graduate directs all media inquires to a Michigan assigned publicist, who has yet to respond to comments. Rachel did announce that she thanks God for this incredible opportunity to inspire hope in young, local artists everywhere. As far as whether she procured a golden ticket to Hollywood, we will not know until we watch on March 11 at 8 p.m.
