U.S. Postal Service issues Gwen Ifill stamp for Black History Month.

Gwen Ifill, the first African-American woman to host a nationally broadcast U.S. affairs news program, is pictured on a commemorative stamp issued for Black History Month.

Ifill hosted PBS’ Washington News Week and PBS NewsHour. She also was the first Black woman to moderate a presidential debate and vice-presidential debate, in 2004 and 2008 respectively.

Ifill began her career in the late 1970s as a newspaper reporter in an era when Black women were still rare in the newsroom. She died in 2016 at 61 after a battle with cancer.

Ifill is on the 43rd Black Heritage commemorative stamp in the U.S. Postal Service’s eries.
