Methodist church confronts irreconcilable LGBTQ+ differences

The Methodist Church is contemplating a split over same-sex marriage and gay clergy.

The breakup, which has not been finally approved, would divide the United Methodist Church into two denominations, a traditionalist one that would forbid gay marriage or gay clergy members, and another that would allow them.

The break would be felt right down to local congregations, which would be forced to choose one denomination or the other. Even those who have been avoiding or bridging the issue would be forced to choose.
