Michigan Radio reports that Chaldean Americans who had been detained to await deportation to Iraq have lost protection from what some have said will be discrimination, persecution and perhaps death.
Tuesday’s decision means even Iraqis who had hoped to plead their case in immigration court can be deported.
Certainly, deportations will break up families. This ongoing legal tug-of-war, started in 2017 in the midst of the ban on travelers from Muslim countries, is why we created “100 Questions and Answers About Chaldean Americans,” which has just been published.
