An art museum has made it’s way onto Grand River, but it’s not your typical one-stop shop. The Art Lab is a creative and collaborative art museum, where people can be involved hands-on or just visit the art pieces. Located directly across the Broad Art Museum, students and community members can join studio sessions to learn how to create things. “We are a space that has gallery, as well as studio space where you can engage in hands-on activities where you can make a little bit of your own art, we also have lots of social space, a store, we hope to see both visitors from the campus and the community.” Director of Education at Broad Art Museum, Michelle Word said.
Tucked away in a corner, in an otherwise small crevice of Red Cedar Antiques, a room labeled “comics” sits idly — scores of memories and nostalgia packing the cramped quarters. In another corner, sports memorabilia flashes the legacies of legends from Michigan State to nearby Detroit. Those particular items are owner Todd Goodrich’s brainchild, his fingerprints firmly planted on a number of goods within the store. Though it isn’t just him; he estimates he has around 26 dealers who stock his shelves with items from the past. “I really like comics, I like sports memorabilia,” Goodrich said.
It’s sad how Michigan State knew about the sexual misconduct of Larry Nassar but didn’t do anything, said David Mittleman, attorney who represents 37 victims of Larry Nassar. Nassar was sentenced to 60 years in prison, three counts of 20 years each, for child pornography. He has seven counts against him and is waiting for trail to hear his sentencing for the other counts that he has not been charged for. Nassar sexually assaulted and abused members of the Michigan State University gymnastics team and members of the USA Olympic gymnastics team. “This is the biggest institutional sexual assault scandal in modern day history,” said Mittleman.

That should make Grand River Avenue look better by the end of the month. The decision to move forward was made by East Lansing City Council after Convexity Properties committed to continuing demolition of the properties at 100-140 W Grand River Ave. as originally planned.
When most people think of East Lansing, they think of Michigan State University. MSU is a key part of East Lansing, but after looking past the 50,000 students that attend the college, there is a community of East Lansing residents.
Artists, musicians, museum employees and cultural organizations nationwide became concerned when President Donald Trump’s first budget proposed elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities in his first federal budget plan.
