While they are very important in educating our youth, Salary.com says teachers are the fourth-most underpaid profession. However, one DeWitt teacher has found a way to rise above the rest and was recognized by the Michigan Lottery with the Excellence in Education Award. Cammie Jones has been teaching the third and fourth grade at Scott Elementary in DeWitt for 13 years. She received her undergrad from Wheelock College in Boston and holds a master’s degree in literary instruction from Michigan State University. Jones said she was drawn to education because she loves working with older elementary school kids because they can maintain a high enthusiasm for learning, they are very capable of writing at a high level and are able to keep up and have very thoughtful conversation.
