The city of East Lansing is welcoming new police chief: Juli K. Liebler. Liebler was appointed the new Chief replacing the former city’s, Chief of Police Tom Wibert, who retired in October 2010. Liebler is the first female police chief in the history of East Lansing’s police department, which was formed in 1921. “As East Lansing’s first female police chief, I think she is going to have to prove herself to her fellow policemen, but I hope that her goal is to make East Lansing safe and not make a political point,” said Thea Card, a resident of East Lansing. Liebler was selected from a pool of candidates by East Lansing City Manager Theodore J. Staton.
