Next year, visitors to Hawk Island County Park in Lansing will have a new space for picnics and parties. Ingham County parks allocated $11,000 this fall to construct the Hawk Island Cabana picnic structure which will hold around 50 people and have picnic tables. A large portion of this project is funded by a $5,000 donation from the Friends of Ingham County Parks. The remaining construction costs will be covered by a $6,000 allocation from the Ingham County Capital Improvement Fund. Hawk Island Park has over 450,000 visitors each year making it the busiest park in the Ingham County Parks system.

At the second annual Touch-A-Truck fundraiser children had the opportunity to see, sit in and even operate vehicles of all shapes and sizes. The event, held Sept. 21 at Hawk Island County Park in Lansing, was put on by the Friends of Ingham County Parks to raise money for improvements. Companies and organizations from around the county including Meijer, Delhi Township Fire and Consumers Energy supplied the vehicles for Touch-A-Truck. Representatives from the companies were on site to help children view, try out and learn all about their vehicles.
