Jewish voters to be courted by Trump campaign

Book cover for 100 Questions and Answers About American JewsPolitico reports that supporters of a second term for President Trump see typically Democratic-leaning Jewish voters helping him retain the White House.

The website reports, “the Republican Jewish Coalition, … (was) briefed on plans for a $10 million-plus blitz geared toward attracting Jewish support for President Donald Trump. The investment, people familiar with the early discussions said, will far surpass what the group spent in past presidential elections.”

Politico said the effort will concentrate on the swing states of Florida, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The Bias Busters guide, 100 Question and Answers About American Jews, reports that Jewish voters are already becoming more Republican. It says, “In 2014, about 61 percent of people who identified as Jews also identified as Democrats or leaned that way. About 29 percent identified as or leaned toward being Republican. The study, by Gallup, showed that the Democratic preference had declined from 71 percent in 2008. The Democratic preference was higher among women, non-religious Jews and Jews with higher educations.”

Politico quotes the coalition’s former executive: “We’re at the intersection of a very unique moment in time where we have the most pro-Israel president ever in history in Donald Trump, and we also at the same time have the Democratic Party — because of the pressure of the progressive left — moving away from the traditional support for Israel that has existed going back to 1948.”
