Safety comes first as IM West reopens

Students on campus are finally able to get back in the gym. IM West reopened its Fitness Center last week for the first time since closing in March to slow the spread of COVID-19. In order to ensure the safety of students and employees, there are some precautions taking place to prevent a coronavirus outbreak.

Trick-or-treating altered but not canceled by COVID-19

This Halloween, ghosts aren’t the only invisible problems that trick-or-treaters and parents have to be mindful of. With COVID-19 still able to be spread in mass numbers, participants must engage in social distancing. Parents passing out candy must find another way to make sure the kids get what they came for, because handing it to them will not be an option. While Karin Polischuk plans on using a table to keep proper distance from trick-or-treaters, other parents have decided to get more creative. “I’ve seen people even putting shoots from their second story windows down below”, said Polischuk.

New outdoor additions to the Meridian Senior Center ready for member use

Members of the Meridian Township Senior Center cheered as the ribbon was cut in front of their new outdoor space. With the help of the Department of Parks and Recreation, the senior center was able to add in a new walkway and seating area just outside the main entrance. “This was a great thing for me when I saw them building it because I walk 10,000 steps a day now and I can come out here and 10 loops around is 1,000 steps,” said member James Campbell. “I’m just hoping I can use it in the winter.”

The senior center has been open since 1995 and is located in the east wing of Chippewa Middle School. Originally, the space outside the senior center was a playground occupied by a childcare program.
