The Meridian Township firefighters and Boy Scout Troop 125 teamed to help celebrate Meridian Township’s 175th anniversary. The two groups hosted a pancake breakfast at 242 Community Church in Okemos on March 11. The firefighters made pancakes, while the troop served them to attendees. Ted Ferris, an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 125, said he was excited for the event and believeed it would be beneficial for Boy Scout Troop 125. “This is service to the community in terms of helping out.

Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame moves to Meridian Mall in Okemos

Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame will be moving to Meridian Mall in Okemos. Caitlyn Perry Dial, the interim executive director at Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame, said that there have been talks about moving locations in the past. “Well our board had discussed the need to move in the summer of 2015, however we wanted to make sure it was the right time and the right facility,” Dial said. The Women’s Hall of Fame needed to move for multiple reasons, but some stood out more than others. “We have a lot of reasons for moving, but mainly that in 2015 our board had decided that we have outgrown our current facility and our building isn’t wheelchair accessible,” Dial said.

Meijer and Chick-fil-A talk about possible increase in traffic


Chick-fil-A is opening its first store in Okemos, just a couple months after opening a store in the Lansing area. They are expecting to open on Mar. 30 at 2055 W. Grand River, in front of the Meijer. Meijer sold their out-lot in front of their store to Chick-fil-A, so they don’t expect Chick-fil-A to be detrimental to their store. When Chick-fil-A opened in Lansing late last year,it brought increased traffic in the shopping center parking lot where it is located.

Bars in Meridian Twp. use social media to bring in football fans


ESPN recorded that the NFL’s viewership has declined by 8 percent. However, sports bars in Meridian Township were still packed Super Bowl Sunday. According to Statista, an average of 111.3 million people tuned in to watch the Patriots defeat the Falcons in a stunning overtime victory on Super Bowl Sunday. Even though the NFL’s viewership has been on the decline, sports bars were still packed on Super Bowl Sunday. Most sports bars like to use promotions to draw a crowd for Super Bowl Sunday.
