The Choice to Die

Thanks to 29-year-old Brittany Maynard, physician aid-in dying has gained media attention. Maynard was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer before she moved from California to Oregon to gain legal access to physician aid-in dying. “It’s not euthanasia because euthanasia is direct physician killing,” said Hilde Lindeman, Professor of Philosophy at Michigan State. Instead, a physician provides and instructs the patient on how to self-administer the deadly drug, usually an oral pill. “It’s the individual alone who has what we might call moral and legal right to exercise that choice,” said Doctor Leonard Fleck, MSU philosophy professor and medical ethicist.

Cedar Village Destruction

EAST LANSING – Thousands of MSU Students took to the streets early Sunday morning, December 8 to celebrate Michigan State’s win over Ohio State in the 2013 B1G Championship Game. Fires were set to couches all over East Lansing, with a rowdy celebration ensuing in Cedar Village, just East of MSU’s campus. Students burned whatever they could find, including trees, the shirts off their backs, couches, and matresses. They even uprooted multiple trees and bushes to burn. Police were on the perimeter of Cedar Village, but did not take action until Michigan State Police and SWAT teams arrived around 2:30 AM. East Lansing Police reported that at least 57 fires were set around the city, and 15 arrests were made.

Spartan Basketball Back In Action

Thousands of Spartan Fans from across the country got a chance to interact with players and coaches at the annual Midnight Madness event at the Breslin Center on Oct. 18. Coaches Suzy Merchant and Tom Izzo certainly exceeded expectations with their lavish entrances, wowing the crowd, some of who traveled more than nine hours to attend the pre-season event. “It’s always a good feeling to be able to sign some autographs for our fans, man. They pay they hard earned money to come see us play, so this is our opportunity to give it back to them a little bit,” Senior Point Guard Keith Appling said.
