Williamston small businesses apply for LEAP relief

Several small businesses in Williamston applied for emergency financial relief from the Lansing Economic Area Partnership after the Michigan Economic Development Corporation awarded it $600,000 to grant to 60 small businesses in Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties. “I think the fact this money is available just for the tri-county area is super important,” said Williamston Mayor Tammy Gilroy.

Williamston voter turnout exceeds expectations

Williamston voter turnout was surprisingly high for the March 10 Michigan Primary. This primary was a good stepping stone in the preparation process for the general election on Nov. 3.

Local Williamston dentist hosts 60th birthday party

Local Williamston dentist Dr. Bob Watts hosted a party at the Sun Theatre to celebrate his 60th birthday. He bought everyone a movie ticket to celebrate the occasion including those who didn’t know it was his birthday. Over 150 people turned out in support of their dentist who has been taking care of their teeth for decades.

Williamston advances toward RRC certification

The Williamston City Council met on Feb. 10 to discuss the results of their Redevelopment Ready Communities evaluation. RRC Planner Brett Hanlon presented to the council about his findings and what they have to proceed to do to reach certification. Williamston will continue on the path to becoming a certified RRC community in the coming month.

Williamston Art Committee applies for grant to construct murals

The Williamston Art Committee has applied for a grant in the hopes of commissioning four welcome murals for the city. The city has wanted to execute an art project for a long time and may finally get their chance to do so. The city has already selected one of the four sites the murals will go. It will hear back on the awarding of the grant by March.
