Every Thursday-Sunday this month, the Ingham County Fairgrounds is hosting Jack O’Lanterns Unleashed. This event features more than 25 themed pumpkin carving exhibits, 5,000 jack-o’-lanterns, fire juggling and fall-themed food and drinks.

“It’s the first event of its kind here in Michigan. It’s really unique because everything is hand-carved. So even though not all of the pumpkins are alive, they all took a lot of time to create. It’s a unique family experience that isn’t scary, and it’s good for all ages,” said Fairgrounds Events Director, Lindsey McKeever. “It’s good for kids and families, it’s good for date-night, everyone can enjoy this”

Some pumpkins were grown here in Ingham, but most of the show was built by a company in New York. All the proceeds go toward the Ingham County Fair.

There is more than just pumpkins at this event. People can enjoy fall beers, hard ciders, limited edition fair treats including caramel apple elephant ears, and even a fire juggler who calls himself “The Amazing Flec.”

Flec has been practicing his art for more than 24 years and performs at events all over Michigan. He posts every single day on his YouTube channel to get more people involved in the performing arts. He can be seen putting on shows at Jack O’Lanterns Unleashed on Oct. 15-17 and 29.

“Our time here was exciting. We never knew what was coming up next. The event definitely gets you in the Halloween spirit,” said a mother from St. Johns who came with her family.

If you’re interested in visiting Jack O’Lanterns Unleashed, you can purchase tickets online or at the door. Event planner McKeever said more than 1,000 people went through the show on Oct. 9, however, so plan for a crowd.
