On Oct. 12, Irene Cahill was sworn in to represent Ingham County’s Ninth District. Cahill filled Erin Graham’s seat, which was left vacant on Sept 27, left vacant when Graham resigned for personal reasons.

Cahill has been a forestry supervisor for the City of Lansing for 28 years. She said she wants to join the workforce board. Her experiences have given her the opportunity for more involvement in the community.

“To get this position I’ve became very active in the East Lansing community. I started coming to meetings to see how they were running, and I grabbed anything I could read so I could stay up to date. Now, as county commissioner, I’m looking forward to being invited to the community meetings.”

Bryan Crenshaw, District 4 commissioner and board chairman, said, “She’s ready to move full steam ahead at the issues we will be addressing in the next year.”

Barb Byrum, the Ingham County Clerk, swore Cahill in at the Oct. 12 Board of Commissioners meeting.

“She’s been very active in the community throughout the years and the appointment is a good decision,” Byrum said.
