Antiquing is a major identity point for the City of Mason and an April 1 event will showcase it.
The Mason Chamber of Commerce is hosting an antiquing event called “Antiques & April.” The event is the kickoff of many springtime events.
Five businesses are going to be the focal point for the event. Last year’s event was canceled for COVID-19 physical distancing guidelines.
With strict social distancing guidelines in place, the event will bring tourism to the city. Sarah Russell, Mason’s Chamber of Commerce executive director, is excited for the event. The event is set to kick off on April 1.
“Mason is known for our antique stores and antique district,” she said. “However, our antique businesses are linked together and work very well together and love promoting each other.” Russell stressed it’s a community-event where other businesses will be impacted as well.
“We are encouraging people to shop local, visit Mason and spend the day with us, and to check out everything we have.”
COVID-19 has put a strain on businesses, some of which had to shut their doors, but antiquing businesses in Mason are seeing an uptick. Tavis Cherry owns “Timeless Treasures” and said, “The main goal of this event is not only to promote our businesses but is to promote the city of Mason. For the month of April, Mason is going to see an uptick in business everywhere,” said Cherry.
He is excited about the event not only for the antiquing business but overall business and tourism opportunities.
Debbie Shattuck, owner of the Maple Street Mall, said “Even though our business didn’t suffer greatly, it was scary not knowing what was going to happen. Once we reopened though, we felt this support from local people and people who love supporting local businesses.”
Businesses are preparing with social distancing guidelines, food trucks, and events throughout the month. Mason’s annual Spring Fling will be held May 1 and will bring more tourism to businesses.
More information regarding the events can be found at the Mason Chamber of Commerce website. Also, there will be a map with events at the Maple Street Mall located at 108 West Maple St.
