Freshman year looks different from home

Thousands of dorm rooms at Michigan State lay empty.

Each year, campus normally is home to around 14,000 students, many of them freshman. This year, that number is down to less than 2,000. COVID-19 is the thing to blame.

Thousands of freshmen are starting their college experience in the same bedroom they grew up in.

Not only is it a blow to the students, but it’s also a huge financial blow to the university.

Plans for the spring are still uncertain, leaving thousands of students in limbo.
