Tonia Ireland Ketchum moved out of DeWitt 17 years ago but her son, daughter and only grandchild still reside in the town, and three years ago, Ketchum started a tradition with her 5-year-old granddaughter whenever she came to visit DeWitt.

“She and I would come to Family Tree Cafe on Sunday mornings just her and I,” Ketchum said.

“I would let her stay in her PJ’s and we would leave mommy and daddy home (most of the times) and we would enjoy a fun breakfast.”

“I honestly can’t think of any place around that I would be as comfortable doing what we do and I love our little tradition,” Ketchum said. “It’s a wonderful family place.”

Besides the amazing food, Ketchum also describes the restaurant as down home and comfortable.

Ketchum’s granddaughter also agrees with her.

“We have a lot of families come through here,” Kitchen manager Monica Foster said.

Foster has been working at the restaurant since it opened in April of 2015. She sees that a lot of their customer base consists of children with their families.

Their goal is about combining quality family-oriented service with the perfect balance of indulgent and gourmet meals.

“It’s very family orientated,” waitress Stacey Wey said.

For the year Wey has been working at the restaurant, she noticed that about half of their customers consists of families while the other consists of retirees and friends.

The waitresses and staff do their best to provide a welcoming environment for their guests.

“We greet the customers with a smile, ask how their day is,” Wey said. “Try to treat them how you would treat a family member, a loved one.”

Customer Kelly Souden felt welcomed when she came into the restaurant.

She said the restaurant is, “Family friendly, welcoming, good service, great food, everyone can find something yummy.”
