Postal clerk, Phil Luce, has been in the postal industry for over 30 years, but his career his officially coming to an end.
“I retired, sat at home for a few years, then was offered this position,” said Luce.
The Michigan State Union post office has been servicing the East Lansing community for over 40 years. However, that will all come to an end on December 14th, 2018.
The post office is shutting down due to lack of usage and unbalanced operational costs and is just one of the many offices going out of business across the country.
As for students looking for future options for their postal needs, their two options are the East Lansing location on Abbott Road or the Lansing location on Collins Road. Both are quite the distance for college students who live on campus.
“This was a convenient location. Now, students will have to travel to mail their packages. They don’t want to take the extra mile to the East Lansing post office,” he added.
