DEWITT – Got a sweet tooth or craving an award-winning pie? Sweetie-licious Bakery Café in Downtown DeWitt has you covered.
Sweetie-licious was established in 2002 by Linda Hundt and has been thriving since. Winning national and regional contests as well as being featured on Food Network and the Today show.
The bakery is known for their pies which has definitely been a popular item. Their Cheery Cherry Lemon Bomb cookies are also very popular.
Baking and cooking classes have been held at the bakery for people to learn how to make the famous pies. Stephanie Haynie that works at Sweetie-licious explained that they make a pie during the class while learning about pie fillings and demonstrating how to make the pie crust.
“We usually do hold those like January into March, we’re doing a mother-daughter one for Mother’s Day,” Haynie said. “The owner, Linda, and her daughter, Ellie, are going to host it.”
Brenda Kowalczyk came for one of the Sweetie-licious baking classes and enjoyed making the pies that she started working for the bakery.
“And then you get a job here after taking the class,” Kowalczyk chimed in. “That’s how I started working here.”
Once spring hits it gets busy and stays that way for the rest of the year. The busiest days of the year are the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
“There’s no competition, those are the two busiest days of the entire year,” Haynie said.
Although they are famous for their pies, they have sandwiches, soups and salads on the menu as well. Lunch time is also a popular time for customers to come in.
“Everything we make here is made from scratch, our salad mixes, our muffin mixes, our cookie dough, we make those,” Haynie said.
Austin Birt found out about Sweetie-licious through a friend and stops by to get a key lime pie whenever he can.
“A friend brought me here a while ago and I’ve been hooked on their pies ever since,” Birt said. “I don’t live close by so I come by whenever I can or when I’m craving some pie.”
