March is for Reading

The month of March is not only for basketball. March is reading month.

So for Amy Lauerman’s fifth grade class at Thurston Elementary, the students have their own march madness bracket. However it is filled with books.

“The whole idea of March is trying to get kids interested in books, and reading new books,” Lauerman said.

Starting off in the Sweet Sixteen, the students pick their favorite books all the way to the Final Four, and with each round a project awaits.

“For one student to be really excited about a book and can get somebody else excited it just sparks the whole excitement of March Madness,” Lauerman said.
