Chick-fil-A is opening its first store in Okemos, just a couple months after opening a store in the Lansing area. They are expecting to open on Mar. 30 at 2055 W. Grand River, in front of the Meijer.
Meijer sold their out-lot in front of their store to Chick-fil-A, so they don’t expect Chick-fil-A to be detrimental to their store.
When Chick-fil-A opened in Lansing late last year,it brought increased traffic in the shopping center parking lot where it is located. Chris Wilson, the store director at Meijer, has been discussing this issue with Chick-fil-a’s franchise owner.
“I will be working with their franchise owner to develop a plan to help with the traffic issue. We have already been in discussion about this issue and we are well aware of the traffic issue that happened at the other store nearby,” Wilson said.
Sarthak Hooda, a shopper at Meijer, is a concerned about the traffic issues that could arise due to the new Chick-fil-A being built.
“I think Chick-fil-A will impact me because the parking lot will be busier, so I will have to start coming to Meijer on Sundays, when Chick-fil-A is closed,” Hooda said.
Even though traffic may become an issue, Wilson believes that Meijer will be fine when Chick-fil-A eventually opens.
“I believe Chick-fil-A will be a good neighbor and a great partner,” Wilson said.
Louis Agosto, an avid shopper at Meijer, also believes Chick-fil-A will be of huge help to Meijer.
“I think Chick-fil-A will affect Meijer in a positive way because Chick-fil-A is a popular fast food restaurant, so it will attract more people to the area,” Agosto said.
