Lysne Tait and Amy Stephenson, Ingham County residents, saw a need and felt compelled to act. In January of 2015, the two friends saw that they shared the same article on Facebook about homeless women’s lack of access to feminine hygiene products.
They decided to host a breakfast to raise money, but when they received over 100 responses to their breakfast and donations from around the country, they decided to answer what seemed to be a clear call: start a nonprofit.
Almost two months later, Helping Women Period has grown to a dedicated team of volunteers that distribute thousands of products to homeless and at risk women and girls across the Lansing area.
