Michigan Prep Stars is a new indoor training facility that opened Oct. 3.

Owners Scott Berman and Don Burt saw an opportunity and bought this old baseball facility. A lack of indoor baseball facilities and teams in the area drove them to reinvigorate this old warehouse.

General Manager Allen Manyen said, “We wanted to keep baseball in the area. We did not want an opportunity like this to go to waste.”

It is open to the public and offers more than just batting cages.

Michigan Prep Stars includes four cages equipped with pitching machines, two clay pitching mounds, and a 50-feet-by-107-feet infield. However, Michigan Prep Stars is open to athletes who play other sports. Teams can rent the facility for golf, football or softball. Strength and conditioning classes are also offered.

Michigan Prep Stars will be open all winter. Also, it will be opening a pro shop filled with baseball equipment and apparel near Christmas.

The organization plans to host clinics with guest coaches during the baseball offseason. It will also offer hitting leagues that use new technology.

This new technology is HitTrax. It is a program that video tapes your swing and computes data about bat speed, hit placement, line-drive percentage, hit speed, averages and other stats. This device also allows hitters to play in a simulated game at any professional baseball stadium in the world.

Mason High School senior Tyler Porter said, “The facility is a lot nicer than it used to be. I am really excited for the new technology they are getting.”

Players who participate can view their data online at any time. This data can be used to analyze and correct a player’s swing.
Personal and group instruction are available. A team of coaches offer batting, fielding, pitching and catching lessons.

Parent Don Porter said, “It’s really convenient, it’s the only baseball center in Mason and it’s only a couple blocks from the high school, so we can just run by here after school.”

Michigan Prep Stars also offers six travel baseball teams from ages 10-16.
