DeWitt, MI- The second annual DeWitt Take a Breath for PH and Get Moving for MS: Half-Marathon, 10K, 5K and free children’s quarter-mile run are scheduled for Saturday, May 11, at the DeWitt High School track.
In 2012, the event raised over $17,000 despite bad weather, for the two organizations. Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation each received a check for $8,500 from the fundraising.
Race organizers this year are hoping to exceed the 2012 goal this year said Melinda Grubich, an organizer this year for the race.
The events Facebook page showed their organizers have been hosting practice runs weekly for all those interested in building their race stamina. “This is not only for us to raise money but to build healthier lifestyles in our community,” said Grubich.
A medal will be given to male and female participant winners in each category. During the children’s race each participant will receive a medal. This event will be held on DeWitt High School’s track.
In 2012 they had over 200 participants in the race. The 2013 race is expecting estimates of over 300 runners.
“Any increase is a good one and if people are coming out having a good time and knowing the cause they participated in was a good one, then I know I have done my job,” said Grubich.
The 2013 race will be having a spaghetti dinner to raise additional funds at Relli’s Italian Restaurant. Entrance is $10 and includes all you can eat food.
Participants can donate online and raise money for the race as well. There will also be an auction and raffle at the end of each race.
