OKEMOS—A new business is making a splash in Okemos this year.
Goldfish Swim School, located off of Marsh Road, offers swim lessons for children year-round. With water temperature at about 90 degrees, this child-friendly environment makes swimming in the wintertime enjoyable.
“I absolutely love bringing my child here. I sometimes forget that it’s 10 degrees outside because of the tropical environment inside,” said Jennifer, parent of a Goldfish swim student.
Goldfish accepts children from four months through 12 and teaches them to swim. Children are grouped by age and ability in one of 12 levels. Each level has a 4:1 student to teacher ratio. Parents can observe the swimming lessons in a spacious area behind a glass wall that overlooks the pool.
Goldfish Swim School offers more than just swim lessons. Parents can throw birthday parties for their child or bring them for recreational swimming.
“The instructors know what they’re doing and I feel comfortable placing my child’s life in their hands,” said another parent of a Goldfish swim student.
According to its website, Goldfish Swim School was founded by Chris and Jenny McCuiston, who opened their first location in Birmingham, Mich on March 20, 2006. From there, Goldfish expanded making Okemos its sixth location to open in Michigan on Dec. 14, 2012.
“The best part of working at Goldfish is watching the children progress to become better swimmers while having fun,” said Rebecca Burlingame, general manager for Goldfish Swim School.
Goldfish Swim School is open from Tuesday to Sunday with special times for each day. Goldfish is at 5135 Times Square Drive, Okemos, MI 48864.
