On Nov. 1, 2011, the Old Town Commercial Association Design Committee gathered to discuss holiday decoration plans. The committee has planned to put together an event later this month to get the community of Old Town in the holiday spirit.
On Nov. 13, members of the committee and other volunteers will meet at Turner Mini Park to begin putting up holiday decorations around Old Town. “Anyone who would like to participate is welcome,” said Louise Gradwohl, member of the OTCA Design Committee. “We got a lot of people to come out last year,” said Rabekah Cathey, member of the OTCA Design Committee. The committee is hoping for another large turnout this year.
“We will be rapping the poles with garland and placing a ribbon at the bottom of the pole,” said Mary Swanson, Head of the OTCA Design Committee. There will be 73 poles decorated. Synthetic garland will be used for the poles. There will also be real garland that will be hung from various buildings in Old Town to add extra decorations to the community.
Cathey is currently putting together a Facebook event page to invite members of the Old Town community and anyone else who would like to join. “We would love to have them,” said Swanson.
The garland has been ordered and the committee is now waiting for the shipment to be delivered. The reason for this design is to promote more people to come shopping in Old Town, said Swanson.
