The Meridian Township Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing for a draft dealing with medical marijuana ordinance. The draft provides a summary of guidelines for users and growers of medicinal marijuana.
The state of Michigan is a relatively newcomer in legislation allowing for the use of medical marijuana. The challenge for some communities is catching up to the legislation at the state level, so that citizens are not falling outside the parameters of the law.
The draft comes at a time, as an increasing number of people are applying for medical marijuana cards to assist in their health afflictions. For some individuals, medical marijuana is an alternative to mainstream manufactured drugs. There has not been an announcement as to when the township will move further with the ordinance.
