The Mason Area Historical Society Antiques Show was canceled this year due to lack of a proper venue for the event.
“We’ve always had the show at the Cobblestone Events Center,” said Sandy Pier, the show’s founder and coordinator. “But a recent change in ownership has caused several problems within the working relationship, and the show didn’t happen for us this year.”
Pier wasn’t able to find another venue with enough space for the one-day event with almost 2,000 visitors, which is always the third weekend in February.
“We needed something with enough space for all the dealers and plenty of parking for the visitors,” said Pier. “There wasn’t another venue that could accommodate the show’s needs.”
Described as a casual and friendly event by Pier, the antiques show is unique to Mason and has proven to be a great fundraiser for the town.
“It’s unfortunate we didn’t get to go through with the event this year,” said Rex Hauser, liaison for the Historical Society and employment coordinator for the show. “I always find plenty of people who love helping out the community in this way.”
The Historical Society takes pride in helping the Mason community with the fundraiser.
The show originated seven years ago after Pier observed that there wasn’t another antique show in the Lansing area.
It has been held in February each year to guarantee the best dealers would be available to attend the show, as opposed to holding the show in the peak summer months when there is more competition.
The one-day event usually took place on the third Saturday in February from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
