Grand Rapids Businessman Peter Secchia, donated a million dollars to help upgrade the softball stadium on campus.

The two million dollar project will renovate the 1,100 seat stadium by adding 120 chair back seats, a new press box and sound system and will use brick accents to match those of Jenison Fieldhouse, McLane Baseball Stadium and the university’s hitting and pitching facility.

The new softball field will be named Secchia Stadium and is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2011 season.

Secchia is an MSU alumnus and and former U.S ambassador to Italy from 1989-1993. He also helped fund the new building that houses the MSU College of Human Medicine in Grand Rapids.
