A weather emergency suspended classes at Michigan State University’s East Lansing campus on Feb 2.

When students found, many cheered. “I’m happy as ever, no school or work!” said psychology junior Shontori Clark. At midnight, MSU switched to emergency procedures. Only staff with essential jobs were expected to report to work.

All electronic services were to be maintained, but campus events were suspended. University buildings were closed to the public.  According to the National Weather Service, a blizzard warning was in effect from 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 to 7 p.m., Feb. 2. The warning called for 10-16 inches of snow, high winds and frigid temperatures.

“I think I needed to move to Florida,” said psychology senior Christopher Hauler. Many students would agree.

Faculty members are responsible for making suitable arrangements regarding missed class meetings. When classes resume, students are expected to work with their instructors to determine how lost classroom time or significant course work will be made up. Normal university operations are set to resume Thursday, Feb. 3.
