Georgio’s Pizza has been a staple in East Lansing for 15 years. So when owner Vackis Nicolaou found out his building would be knocked down, his feelings were just.

“It’s bittersweet,” Vackis said.

But, they’re coming back.

Georgio’s Pizza and 7-Eleven on Grand River and Bogue Street are undergoing demolition to make room for the new Hub project.

The Hub project is expected to have 350 units with first floor retail.

Planning and Building Development Director, Tim Dempsey, says in a market where housing is softening, this project could be very attractive to students.

Dempsey said it could result in better rent for students.

“But, it could be incentives. Getting that first month free or not having to pay as big as a security deposit,” Dempsey said.

Nicolaou says he’ll miss the customers over the course of the year that the businesses will be closed.

“It’ll be easy for them to walk down and have pizza,” Nicolaou said.

The Hub is expected to be open Spring 2019.
