Volunteers at the Habitat ReStore in St. Johns are offering up their assistance to city residents who want to get rid of their reusable items stored away in garages and attics.
The Habitat ReStore is teaming up with the city-wide annual DeWitt Spring Pick-Up set to take place Monday, April 16. Instead of having to haul reusable items to the curb, the organization is offering to pick up major appliance, furniture, vanities, and cabinets for residents.
“We take all types of items, ranging from living room furniture to dining room tables, to kitchen appliances,” said ReStore employee Lori. “The only thing we don’t take are mattresses, but we will take the mattress frames.”
Residents are encouraged to recycle and are given the incentive of a tax reduction for a donation and the peace of mind knowing that their reusable items are not going into the landfill.
The ReStore sells it’s donated merchandise at extremely discounted prices. The proceeds then go to supporting the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County. They help to provide reasonable and affordable homes to those living in insufficient homes. Habitat also does other types of philanthropy such as building homes for local families. They are starting to build one for a family this June.
DeWitt residents who wish to take advantage Habitat’s offer can stop in the store which is located at 2352 N. US 27. Their business hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The pick-ups happen once a week throughout the duration of the year. The first pick-up will take place on April 16th for all residents.
The ReStore is also looking for individuals to volunteer.
“To volunteer all you have to do is come into the store during our business hours and fill out an application,” said ReStore employee Lori. “We have a lot of volunteers at the moment so most likely the newer volunteers would be working on the floor or the register.”
Their duties would include running the cash register, help with customer service, helping to clean and sort through the merchandise and actually delivering the merchandise. Volunteers will have the option of taking on part-time or full-time shifts. The shifts will be available Tuesday through Saturday on either a daily or weekly basis.
